How to get more hook on the bowling ball?

I recently switched to a fingertip grip. I know how to get hook. However, I can't seem to figure out how to get the ball to roll out towards the gutter and then hook back in. The only way I can do it is by standing at the gutter form the start. How do I get the ball to roll out and then hook back in?

First off, there's nothing wrong with rolling a down-and-in shot (starting at the gutter). The best bowler in the game, Walter Ray Williams throws the ball from the right side of the lane with end over end roll. There's also the other end of the spectrum with the big crankers like Tommy Jones and Robert Smith who throw the ball corner to corner. The key is to find your A game and fine tune it to maximize your strike percentage.

I imagine you are rolling the ball more end over end, which causes the ball to snap less at its breakpoint. The key to getting your ball to snap more is to increase your axis tilt. That's a technical bowling term that essentially means that your ball itself is turned towards the direction you want the ball to hook and therefore rotating more in the direction of the head pin.

Imagine your ball is a bicycle and you are trying to turn on ice (in this analogy, the ice is the oil on the lane). No matter how hard you pedal and how far you turn your wheel your bike will keep skidding. At some point, your bike will find friction between the wheel and the road, either because you have slowed down or the ice is gone, and you will stop skidding and begin to turn. The further your wheel is turned, the harder your bike will turn once it has gripped the road.

The oil on the lane doesn't go all the way to the pins, so at some point the ball will grip and hook. How much depends on the revolutions on the ball how far in it is turned towards the head pin. Of course, the coverstock material of the ball makes a difference too.

I hope this is clear as mud.
