What's that bit of cotton webbing on the back of the British Army PLCE Bergen?
I have a Birtish army P.L.C.E. bergen and there is a short length of cotton webbing half way down the sack on the rear.
Initially i thought it seems to be the right place for an Ice axe, but you'd need two axe's, and it seems a bit short for that use anyway.
and why is it cotton rather than Nylon webbing?
I can only imagine it's for:
a digging tool (other than the folded one)?
for a radio antennae?

the piece of webbing would not be strong enough(and it's not big enough).
